A recently arrived Brazilian couple wanted to add some personality and coziness to their perfectly rectangular, paved courtyard garden.

 

The brief was to work with their existing garden furniture and maintain the paving slabs, necessitating a solution based around containers.

A feeling of lush, tropical planting was created using broad-leaved evergreen shrubs, climbers and ferns, with pops of bright orange from flowering perennials.

 

A lounging space was defined by creating a bordered gravel area, with festoon lighting. A new shed with vertical bike racks solved any issues with garden storage.
